Lascelles replaces Schar: Predicted Newcastle lineup vs Burnley

Newcastle United take on Burnley in the final game of the season, in what is set to be a huge afternoon for the Clarets.

They’re still battling to avoid relegation, and must hope Leeds don’t better their result. Burnley are currently out of the bottom three on goal difference.

This game had been pencilled in as a relegation decider earlier in the year, but that isn’t happening.

A resurgent Newcastle have survived with ease, and could actually end the season in the top 10 if results go our way.

It’s been an exhilarating campaign, but who will Eddie Howe pick to start the 38th and final game?

Newcastle were incredible on Monday night against Arsenal, but there was one scary moment. Fabian Schar suffered a head injury early in the second half, forcing him off amid concussion concern.

Howe has admitted they’ll make a late decision on the defender, but it simply isn’t worth the risk.

Jamaal Lascelles replaced him against Arsenal and performed very well, bullying Eddie Nketiah out of the game. The Toon skipper was dominant in the air, and will need to do the same against Burnley.

First Newcastle start since February for Kieran Trippier

He didn’t feature against Arsenal, but we expect Kieran Trippier to start on Sunday.

He hasn’t been in the Newcastle starting XI since February, back when he captained the side to victory against Aston Villa.

Trippier will be keen to get some minutes before the end of the season, and will hopefully replace Emil Krafth at Turf Moor. The Swede has been exceptional in recent months, however, and deserves a lot of credit for his performances.

One change to the lineup in attack for Newcastle

With Joe Willock and Jonjo Shelvey injured, our midfield three should remain unchanged. Elsewhere, Allan Saint-Maximin will hope to pick up where he left off on Monday.

The Frenchman was much better against Arsenal, and is a player who always does well versus Burnley.

Callum Wilson should retain his place up top after a really strong return last time out, with Chris Wood only just returning to training on Friday.

We do predict one change in attack though, with Jacob Murphy replacing Miguel Almiron.

Predicted Newcastle XI vs Burnley: Dubravka; Trippier, Lascelles, Burn, Targett; Murphy, Longstaff, Bruno, Joelinton, Saint-Maximin; Wilson.
