Joe Willock was really impressed with one of his Newcastle United teammates as they recorded a comfortable victory against Wolves yesterday.
Both Willock and Alexander Isak had only made their returns from injury in the defeat to Arsenal last week but Eddie Howe deemed them both fit enough to start two games in a row after the midweek FA Cup tie against Blackburn.
Isak posted on Instagram after the game to celebrate the win and Willock was quick to respond to his teammate and Newcastle goalscorer who was key in a big win against Wolves.
Newcastle have really missed Willock and Isak lately
Newcastle’s form hasn’t been brilliant as of late and it’s no surprise that it has coincided with some of their best players being out of the team with injuries which has been the story of the season so far.
The midfield three have basically had to play every single minute together in the last few weeks and things have started to a go a bit stale with Bruno Guimaraes, Sean Longstaff and Lewis Miley all lacking a bit of pace and physicality.
That’s something that Willock has in abundance and against Wolves it showed just how much Newcastle had missed his energy in midfield especially during the first half when he made some great driving runs into the oppositions half.
As for Isak, the striker hasn’t been out for as long as Willock who missed most of the season, but the striker is still absolutely key for Newcastle and it was huge to have a natural centre forward in the team.
On Instagram, Isak posted: “3 points, clean sheet and amazing support! 🤩 @nufc 🖤🤍”
Willock then responded: “You’re a baller”.

Newcastle need to stay fit the rest of the season
It seems like such an obvious statement given that all Premier League teams have dealt with injuries, but Newcastle have played like a completely different team with so many of their stars out during this campaign.
They’re still yet to see the return of Joelinton, Callum Wilson or Sandro Tonali, but it will be imperative for Howe that he is able to keep this current group of players fit and healthy for the remainder of the season.
Having some attacking and midfield options on the bench also made a huge difference from their previous results where they’d had to rely on the likes of Matt Ritchie in the latter stages of games.
Champions League does feel way out of their reach now, but there’s still plenty up for grabs as Newcastle will go into every game believing they can win and have a huge FA Cup tie against Man City to look forward to.
