The St James’ Park crowd were right up for their return to Champions League action from well before the ref blew the whistle for kick-off as Newcastle took on Paris Saint-Germain.
Newcastle’s side was a slightly depleted with several key players missing but you’d never have known by the way they played.
Jermaine Jenas said he loves seeing the players take to the atmosphere
The players seemed as up for the task as the fans with Anthony Gordon closing down a PSG defender and winning the ball early on in the game and gesturing to the fans to keep up the noise.
A few minutes later £40million signing from Ligue 1, Bruno Guimaraes went in and won the ball from Moussa Dembele and celebrated the tackle like a goal which really impressed Jermaine Jenas who was on commentary duty for TNT Sports.

“Look at that, they’re celebrating every tackle. There’s nothing wrong with that you’ve got the ride the waves sometimes and these players have every right to do that,” said Jenas.
Newcastle went in at the break 2-0 up thanks to Miguel Almiron and a Dan Burn goal that VAR took a long time debating over. They were looking at offsides and handballs but ultimately let the goal stand.
Newcastle continued to press PSG all game and got their reward.
The lads continued where they left off in the second half, chasing every loose ball and were soon rewarded for their efforts as Sean Longstaff made it 3-0.

PSG pulled one back via Lucas Hernandez but in the 90th minute Fabian Schar killed the game off with a sublime finish from distance.
What a night and to have to Geordies on the scoresheet just makes it all the more sweet.
