Alexander Isak shares Newcastle dressing room mood after late Liverpool winner

The Newcastle United dressing room was ‘disappointed’ after Liverpool’s last-second winner according to Alexander Isak.

Jurgen Klopp’s side made it 2-1 in the 98th minute thanks to Fabio Carvalho, despite there being only five minutes of added time. Liverpool fans will point to Newcastle’s ‘time-wasting’ as justification, but it was a cruel blow for Eddie Howe’s side.

The Magpies were exceptional at Anfield. We matched them in every department, and were much the better side in the first half. In the second we sat back and protected our lead, and had a second goal controversially ruled out for offside.

If the goal had stood, Isak’s near perfect debut would have been even better. But instead it ends with defeat and a first ever goal for his new club.

And the £59million man believes the game can serve as motivation for Saturday’s clash with Crystal Palace.

Isak on dressing room mood

After the game, Isak spoke to NUFC TV. He was asked about the mood in the Newcastle dressing room after Fabio Carvalho’s 98th minute winner.

“Obviously the lads are disappointed, as you should be,” he said.

“It looked like we were leaving with at least one point so to concede a goal in the last seconds is never ideal, never fun.

“We are a bit down now but we’ve just got to use this and make it our energy for the next game.”

Disappointment can inspire Newcastle

The result was crushing for Newcastle, but it can serve as motivation. Howe’s side put everything into last night, and it still wasn’t enough to win a point.

It should inspire the Magpies to play even better. And hopefully that starts on Saturday. We take on Crystal Palace at St James’ Park, who will pose a different kind of threat.

It should be an excellent game, and one Newcastle will be hoping to win. The players will not want to feel like they did last night again, and will hopefully give everything to ensure that doesn’t happen.

Newcastle are disappointed and rightly so. They absolutely deserved a point, and have proven they can hang with the Premier League’s two best sides. Liverpool didn’t like it, and were absolutely rattled.

However, they were the ones celebrating by the full time whistle – even if some of their fans preferred to boo our players.

But lessons will have been learnt despite the wonderful performance, and Newcastle need to go again on Saturday against Palace.
