Alexander Isak came off the Newcastle United bench tonight to show everyone why he’s being compared to Thierry Henry invoking a one-word reaction from Ian Wright on Twitter.

Newcastle were 2-0 up and cruising when Alexander Isak came on in replace of Sean Longstaff and then a minute later Callum Wilson bagged his second and Newcastle’s third with a quality strike from outside the area right into the top corner.

Everton managed to pull a goal back on 80 minutes through Dwight McNeil but literally 22 seconds after the restart Newcastle’s three-goal lead was restored by Jacob Murphy. However, it might be Murphy’s name on the scoresheet but it was Alexander Isak’s goal.

Alexander Isak had the Everton defenders chasing their own tails

Isak picked up the ball just past halfway on the left flank and ran to the byline bringing three Everton players with him, he tied them up in knots and worked his way into the box firing the ball across the face of goal into the path of Murphy.

The run from Isak was nothing short of phenomenal. The comparisons to Thierry Henry have never been more justified, and it was another former Arsenal striker who summed up the run on Twitter with a simple one-word response. Ian Wright retweeted a clip of the goal and simply added: “Wow”.

Newcastle have the second-best striker in the Premier League

The entire Everton back line were on strings as Isak worked his way into the box, nobody could get close to Isak.

It’s a shame that he’s not managed to get himself on the scoresheet again tonight, but that assist was worth a goal on its own.

Next season, if he stays fit, he’s going to be a force. I’ve said it time and time again, he’s going to push Erling Haaland for the Premier League Golden Boot next season. He just has the midas touch … and he’s ours!!
