Newcastle United face Espanyol in a pre-season friendly on Friday as the Sela Cup returns to St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe’s side will look to ‘defend’ the Sela Cup when they meet two Spanish teams in less than 24 hours.

Indeed, Newcastle welcome Espanyol to St James’ Park on Friday before they host Atletico Madrid on Saturday.

The Newcastle United squad are still looking for their first win of pre-season. Clearly, results are not the most important thing at this stage of the summer, but the winless run has come during a difficult summer in the transfer market.

Newcastle are struggling to sign players, while their star man in Alexander Isak wants to leave.

It has been a bruising few months for Toon supporters, who will get their first view of the team on Tyneside ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Here’s how to watch the action.

Newcastle United make Alexander Isak decision ahead of Espanyol game

Isak has returned to the Newcastle United training ground, although he has been working on an individual basis and away from his teammates.

The Sweden striker still wants to leave the club this summer amid interest from Liverpool, but they are yet to return with a new bid for his services.

Any hope fans may have had of seeing the striker back in action, however, were dashed on Thursday.

According to Craig Hope of The Daily Mail, Isak will not play against either Espanyol or Atletico Madrid this weekend.

It remains to be seen if the Sweden star ever pulls on a Newcastle shirt again.
