Newcastle United have lost 4-0 to Leicester City in the Premier League.

The Magpies could not build on their victory over Burnley last weekend, with the Foxes simply a cut above at the King Power.

A controversial penalty decision saw Youri Tielemans fire the hosts ahead, and that seemed to put wind in Leicester’s sails.

Patson Daka and James Maddison added the second and third goals, before Tielemans rounded things off with his second.

As good as Leicester were, and as much as the penalty shouldn’t have been awarded, Newcastle were very poor on the day.

This was a real chance for the visitors to kick on from their win over Burnley.

Leicester were missing players and had been in action against Napoli in midweek. They have also shipped a lot of goals in the Premier League this season.

But Newcastle fell well short, after as the game drew to a close, Gary Lineker couldn’t help but send a message on Twitter to his Match of the Day colleague Alan Shearer.

He said: “Cracking goal and @cfc are 3 up. Thoughts are with you @alanshearer at this difficult time.”

Shearer replied: “Thanks Gaz. First goal was an absolute joke from the officials. The best team won. Newcastle were woeful and that’s being polite.”

A worrying performance as Leicester stuff Newcastle 4-0

Newcastle were undoubtedly stuffed by a poor decision in the first-half.

But the response to that decision and going a goal down was really poor. There was no danger of Newcastle ever getting back on terms.

This was a genuinely winnable game for Newcastle heading into the contest.

To have put in such a poor display, bad decision or not, was really disappointing and now some very hard games lie in wait.
