Fulham confirm significant injury blow before playing Newcastle United

Newcastle United will need to be at something approaching their best on Saturday.

After all, quite how much can be taken from Newcastle’s last outing is up for debate.

Newcastle beat Southampton 3-1 to recover from their battering at home to Bournemouth but Saints are on track to be the worst team in Premier League history, so may not have been the biggest test.

Even then, they actually took the lead, so Eddie Howe’s side will have to improve from the off as Fulham come to St James’ Park. The race for the top five is hotly contested, after all.

Marco Silva’s side beat the Magpies 3-1 back in September, proving how dangerous they can be.

Sadly for the Cottagers, however, they’ve been dealt a big injury blow in the build-up to the game.

Fulham dealt big injury blow before Newcastle game

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Thursday, Silva confirmed Wales international Harry Wilson is set to miss a significant period of time with a metatarsal injury.

The 27-year-old has scored five goals this season, emerging as a more regular starter of late, so missing him will no doubt be a huge blow for Fulham.

“Not good news for Harry Wilson,” he said.

“Wilson needs surgery — he’s going to be out for a long period. Maybe 10 weeks.”

Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville think Newcastle United will beat Fulham

Newcastle were flying until the Bournemouth game but the trip to Craven Cottage earlier this season does offer at least some cause for concern.

Fulham were good value for their victory on that day and have put in some very impressive performances all season.

Still, it seems Howe’s side are strongly fancied to claim what would be another crucial three points in the battle for Champions League qualification.

Pundits Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville have backed Newcastle to beat Fulham.

While easier said that done, it’s surely a game Newcastle simply have to win at home. Failing to taste victory would be a disappointment, no matter how good Fulham have been.
