Like every manager does before the game, Frank Lampard has praised his next opponents Newcastle. But his comments don’t really add up completely.

It’s customary for a manager to lavish praise on his opponents before the game. It just makes any potential triumph all the more impressive.

So what does Lampard make of Newcastle under Steve Bruce ahead of the clash at Stamford Bridge?

“We know that Newcastle are determined, organised and have got results already this season against teams pushing at the higher end of the league so we need to control what we can control,” Lampard said in his pre-match press conference.

Newcastle have been determined and organised at times this season, but they’ve also been the complete opposite.

Organisation went completely out the window against Arsenal in the second half. The Norwich performance lack both determination and organisation. The Leicester performance…well the less said about that the better.

But in the 1-0 wins over Tottenham and Manchester United, we were exactly what Lampard says we are. The problem for Bruce is finding consistency.

If we get battered by Chelsea then we’re back to square one and the Man United win was just a flash in the pan.

But if the Magpies can pick up a third win of the season against one of the big clubs then it would suggest that Bruce’s side really have turned a corner.
