Alexander Isak’s post-Newcastle United struggles continued over the international break and Nick Woltemade isn’t the only Toon-related player to outscore him.
The Liverpool forward has scored just one goal in eight club games since leaving Newcastle United for a British record fee in September.
Isak’s struggles in front of goal aren’t only limited to the club game, either. Indeed, Isak has frustrated Sweden fans this season and is yet to score a goal for them since his huge move.
Another international break came and went without a goal for the Sweden star. Graham Potter’s side lost 4-1 to Switzerland and drew 1-1 with Slovenia to leave their World Cup hopes hanging by a thread.
That was in stark contrast to Woltemade’s success with Germany. He scored four goals during six qualifying games, a record also equaled by a former Newcastle forward in Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Nick Woltemade and Aleksandar Mitrovic outscore Alexander Isak
Woltemade starred for Germany during the November international break and his goals helped a German team who have often been criticised by their national press over the line.
Mitrovic, meanwhile, is now playing out in Qatar for Al-Rayyan SC but still bagged four goals in six games in Serbia’s failed quest for next summer’s World Cup.
It certainly shows the importance of a pre-season. Isak’s last international goal came way back in March, before everything played out earlier this summer.
Every Newcastle United player who has qualified for the 2026 World Cup
Alongside Isak, Anthony Elanga and Emil Krafth could miss out on the 2026 World Cup with Sweden.
They do still have a chance, however, and will play in the play-offs in March following their solid Nations League campaign.
| Country | Players |
| England | Anthony Gordon, Dan Burn, Nick Pope, Tino Livramento, Lewis Hall, Aaron Ramsdale |
| Germany | Nick Woltemade, Malick Thiaw |
| Brazil | Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton |
While the players below still need to do enough to ensure they are selected in their respective squads next summer, a large portion of the Newcastle United squad have qualified.
Yoane Wissa, William Osula and Alex Murphy could all feasibly join them when the play-offs take place in March.
