Despite some really heated moments, Newcastle United vs Arsenal ended with 22 players on the pitch.
Both teams could have had men sent off, with an incredibly intense game ending with Newcastle winning 1-0.
The first potential red card came when Kai Havertz wiped out Sean Longstaff. It was a shocking tackle that enraged Eddie Howe’s players. However, the Germany international only received a booking.
Then it was Newcastle‘s turn to escape a red card, for a challenge that was even worse than Havertz’s.
After playing a pass across the pitch, Arsenal midfielder Jorginho was clattered into by Bruno Guimaraes. The Brazilian charged at him, and actually struck him in the back of his head with his arm. It was incredibly dangerous by Bruno, who somehow avoided all punishment.
It was brainless from Bruno, and now former Middlesbrough midfielder Robbie Mustoe has admitted that the 25-year-old should have been sent off.
Pundit seriously unimpressed with Bruno Guimaraes against Arsenal
Mustoe has spoke about Bruno Guimaraes’ ‘behavior’ against Arsenal on the latest episode of The 2 Robbie’s Podcast on NBC Sports’ official YouTube channel.
“I felt even stronger about this [than Gordon’s goal],” he said.
“I’ll try not to make it seem like a rant. But the behaviour of Bruno Guimaraes. For me, the run behind the player and striking of the head with his forearm, which is a hard part of his arm, you can see the head jolt forwards, there’s significant force and that should have been a red card. That’s one thing for VAR that they didn’t think it was.
“Then there was various others. Remember when Jorginho played the ball and he shoved him deliberately to the ground.”

Bruno was too heated during Newcastle vs Arsenal
We love seeing players play with passion at St James’ Park. It is a big reason why Bruno is absolutely adored on Tyneside.
However, he was a man possessed at times on Saturday night. That first challenge on Jorginho was so reckless, and then he barged into him again later in the game. Yes, it was amusing as a home fan, but if it had been the other way round there would have been outrage.
In the end, Bruno did get a booking, and it means he is now suspended for next weekend’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth.
But he will be back when we face Chelsea at St James’ Park at the end of November, when hopefully he is a bit less hot-headed than he was against Arsenal.
