Reported Newcastle United target Billy Gilmour was in international action last night, and supporters have been praising the youngster’s showing.
Gilmour, 19, came off the bench at half-time against Luxembourg in the Tartan Army’s final warm-up match before Euro 2020.
It was only his second appearance for his country, and he only got half an hour in the end after a brutal challenge forced him off.
But Gilmour certainly did just that during his time on the pitch, with the Daily Record describing him as ‘a cut above anyone else’.
The Chelsea midfielder showed his class and technical quality, and the Scottish media have now asked the question whether he should be a starter when the tournament kicks off.
Gilmour is reportedly a loan target for Newcastle.
That was the claim from the Northern Echo a couple of weeks ago.
It seems that he would make for a brilliant acquisition by the Magpies, but whether Thomas Tuchel would be willing to let him go remains to be seen.
Apparently he already blocked him from leaving shortly after he arrived at Stamford Bridge.
On social media, fans were left drooling over Gilmour’s cameo against Luxembourg:
Billy Gilmour must start for Scotland in the euros. He’s so clear of the others in his position it’s scary!

Billy Gilmour looks right at home in that midfield.
Love the way he’s always looking for the ball and offering an angle for a pass. Not to mention his weight of pass.

Feel like this teams definitely capable of getting through but it’s all down to who gets picked and if they show up, but I definitely think Billy Gilmour has to start, he was outstanding when he came on tonight

Billy Gilmour is a serious footballer.

I might be late to the party, but Billy Gilmour is a player. A bit of swagger and arrogance. Exactly what we need on the middle of the park. Get him in the starting line up. His confidence is sky high. And while we’re at it, get Patterson in too. No room for sentiment or loyalty.
