Eddie Howe is a man of great focus and doesn’t allow himself to get carried away which is why it’s no surprise to hear what he told his Newcastle United players at full time after their biggest win of the season.
Newcastle humiliated Tottenham today at St James’ Park running out 6-1 winners after scoring five goals in the first 21 minutes. Therefore it was no surprise that Eddie Howe was asked what he said to his players at full time after such an important victory.
For those of us who watch a lot of Eddie Howe’s interviews it’ll come as no surprise to see that his message to his players was about the next game. Howe told Sky Sports: “My first message to the players after the game is that we’ve got Everton on Thursday. We had a very difficult experience there last season in very similar conditions where we were at a similar stage of the season so we know how difficult that’s going to be. We’ll put all our energy now into that one.”
Eddie Howe’s focus is why Newcastle are third
I honestly wouldn’t be shocked if that was how he started his team talk before even giving them a well done.
That being said, I wouldn’t have it any other way and I bet the players wouldn’t either. It’s that kind of focus and drive that’s exactly why Newcastle find themselves in third place in the Premier League. As the players head home after a job well done, Eddie Howe’s probably back in his office working on Thursday’s game already.
Everton will need more than a protestor to stop Newcastle on Thursday

If I were an Everton fan I’d be very, very nervous right now. While it’s not often that a team follows up such a battering with another one, but Howe seems determined that the Newcastle’s standards don’t drop now. If 6-1 is how we deal with the team that started the day just three points behind us, it’s not going to be good news for a team in the bottom three.
The big difference is that the Everton fixture is away from home so that does change things, but as long as there are no protesters zip-tying themselves to goal posts this time, we should be able to rectify the injustice from last season.
