William Osula left his mark in Newcastle United’s win against Bromley in the FA Cup.

The Magpies avoided FA Cup embarrassment at St James’ Park thanks to goals from Lewis Miley, Anthony Gordon and William Osula.

Newcastle’s win against Bromley puts them in the hat for the fourth round of the competition as Toon boss Eddie Howe aims to win Newcastle’s first trophy since 1969.

The Magpies are looking to now do one better than they did last season, they reached the quarter-finals before defeat against Manchester City at the Etihad – with the current run of form, it looks possible.

It was Osula’s first goal for Newcastle since he joined the club in the summer, a fine strike from a tight angle. Fans will be hoping it’s his first goal of many on Tyneside.

It was a huge opportunity for the Dane to impress at St James’ Park, and he didn’t disappoint – his goal was a sign that he has what it takes to replace Alexander Isak if need be.

Now, Howe has reflected on what will be a memorable performance for Osula.

Eddie Howe praises goalscorer Osula

Howe is sure to be delighted that his summer signing is off the mark following a slow start to life on Tyneside.

The 21-year-old played his part in helping the Magpies bag their eighth win in all competitions and made a claim to be a part of Howe’s squads much more often.

Howe was asked about Osula’s performance by BBC Sport, he couldn’t speak highly of his striker enough.

“He’s been waiting for that moment,” Howe said.

“He’s been training hard. He has huge potential and quality. I haven’t seen him score many like that. I’m delighted for him.

“I’m very level. We’re delighted with the run of form we’re in.”

Osula will be in contention to feature in Newcastle’s game against Wolves on Wednesday. So far this season, Osula has only played 28 minutes in the Premier League but his goal is bound to give Howe a decision to make – especially after Isak had an injury scare which made him miss the Bromley game.

Osula’s impressive FA Cup streak

Despite a lack of game time this season, Osula made the most of his opportunity in the FA Cup and kept up an impressive personal record he has brought with him to Newcastle.

The 21-year-old’s strike means he has scored his seventh goal in as many FA Cup games.

The Magpies have drawn against League One side Birmingham City in the fourth round of the cup, it’s another opportunity for Howe to rotate from his usual starting XI, so expect Osula to feature.

Osula wasn’t the only Newcastle man to make their FA Cup debut for the club. Young star Trevan Sanusi marked his first competitive appearance for the Magpies after impressing for the under-21s.
