Eddie Howe praised his Newcastle United side tonight, calling them outstanding after they saw off Brighton 4-1 under the lights at St James’ Park.
Newcastle are now just three points away from guaranteed Champions League football next season. In fact, the Magpies could have it wrapped up before they even kick a ball on Monday if Aston Villa were to beat Liverpool on Saturday.
However, it would be more exciting and more fun to do it ourselves at St James’ Park on Monday night with a win over Leicester.
Eddie Howe is already focused on Leicester on Monday
And that’s where Eddie Howe‘s focus lies already despite an impressive win tonight. The Newcastle boss spoke to Sky Sports after the game saying: “We have to move on very quickly mentally to the game against Leicester on Monday night.
“I thought we were outstanding tonight. It was a very tough game physically and we’re going to have to recover very quickly.”

On his side’s high pressing: “I feel that’s very much us at our best in that first half. We were relentless with what we did and full credit to the players for what they gave physically in that first half.
“It’s very difficult to maintain that for the full game. When Brighton scored, we were mature with what he had to do during that period before we got the late goals.”
Will Howe allow himself to celebrate on Monday if we beat Leicester?
There’s nothing more Eddie Howe than looking at the next game before even praising his players for the one they just finished. The man’s focus and determination is amazing.
It’ll be interesting to see on Monday, should Newcastle win against Leicester and complete their Champions League mission, will Howe still be as focused then on the Chelsea game?
Knowing Howe, he will be, it’s still a game that has to be played and therefore points to be won, even though Newcastle and Chelsea would have nothing left to play for. I just can’t imagine him letting that intensity slip for even one game.
