Eddie Howe names one Newcastle player who ‘did his job’ against Bournemouth

Newcastle United’s injury crisis means Eddie Howe has had to trust some of his younger players.

The likes of Tino Livramento have taken that opportunity and run with it even despite some difficult results, while Lewis Miley started away at Bournemouth on Saturday.

That proved to be another frustrating game for Newcastle. Well beaten on the south coast, Kieran Trippier was even involved in a heated exchange with a supporter after the game.

The sheer number of injuries Howe is having to contend with is staggering. Indeed, it surely means not too many definitive conclusions can be drawn from games like the Bournemouth one, as it provides little reflection on Howe’s first choice starting lineup.

Such were the lack of available bodies, young Ben Parkinson came on for Miley.

Ben Parkinson: Eddie Howe delivers Newcastle verdict

It was certainly not an easy game for the youngster to come into but Howe was pleased with what he saw.

Speaking to BBC Radio Newcastle, Howe said: “Ben is a highly rated young player, he’s scored goals at various levels.

“Today he was there when we needed him and we trusted to bring him on the pitch. He’s athletic, he’s keen and it was a very difficult game for him to enter because at the moment we were on the ropes.

“We weren’t the dominant team, so he ran around and did his job.”

Newcastle injuries: Pressure on young players

In an ideal world, Howe wouldn’t have to rely on teenagers when his side desperately need a win.

Still, that is not the card he has been dealt.

The lack of bodies does at least afford them the chance to impress, when perhaps they wouldn’t have been otherwise.

Livramento has certainly shown enough to get excited about, so its up to his young teammates to follow in his path.
