Joelinton didn’t have the greatest of nights for Newcastle United against Manchester City at the Etihad tonight.
Besides Sven Botman and Fabian Schar it was actually difficult to pick out any Newcastle player who had a good game tonight. Harvey Barnes looked good when he came on, but even he wasn’t able to produce anything.
While a lot of players seemed to struggle for one reason or another, Joelinton managed to add an injury to his poor performance.
Joelinton was booked and then limped off the field
In a tackle that possibly saved Anthony Gordon from being sent off, Joelinton clattered Man City’s Phil Foden right on the touchline but seemed to come off worse from the ordeal.
Joelinton struggled to his feet to receive his yellow card and started to move gingerly around the pitch, but after a couple of minutes he waved to the bench and collapsed in a heap on the deck.

Eddie Howe immediately brought the Brazilian off and replaced him with Sean Longstaff and Joelinton limped off the pitch.
Howe isn’t yet sure of the extent of Joelinton’s injury
At full time Eddie Howe was interviewed on TNT Sports and was asked whether the injury was as bad as it looked with Howe saying: “I don’t know. He wasn’t moving well when he came off so fingers crossed he’s ok.”

Hopefully it’s not a knock that will keep him out for any length of time with Liverpool up next. Also the big man just got selected for international duty again so it would be a shame for Joelinton to miss out on that.
Newcastle now need to regroup and Howe needs to instill more belief into his side as Liverpool will be another huge challenge next week and we can’t play like we did tonight against them too.
