If DeAndre Yedlin could cross a ball, Newcastle might have done a bit better against Norwich.

Time and time again in the first half, the Magpies found space down the right flank. And time and time again, Yedlin hit the first man.

The American international managed just one impressive delivery, which led to Newcastle’s best chance. His cross was met by Joelinton, who was denied by a sensational save from former Magpie Tim Krul.

That cross from Yedlin turned out to be an anomaly, who squandered multiple chances to create an opportunity for a teammate.

Newcastle have been woeful in attack in recent weeks. It’s now two games in a row that we’ve been unable to score, and they were both at home against bottom of the table and a team from League One.

Yedlin was replaced early in the second half, and it quickly became clear that Valentino Lazaro has a lot more to offer. While Yedlin was never comfortable in possession, Lazaro moved the ball nicely and looked to launch attacks down the right.

Based on Lazaro’s first Newcastle appearance, Yedlin will need to step his game up if he wants to keep the Austrian out the side.
