David Moyes was very complimentary about Newcastle United after his West Ham side rescued a point late in the game this afternoon.

Newcastle United came away from the London Stadium with a share of the spoils after West Ham took the lead early in the first half before allowing Newcastle to go 2-1 up with two quick-fire Alexander Isak goals in the second half.

West Ham bagged a very late equaliser after substitute Mohammad Kudus fired a rocket of a shot beyond Nick Pope. The defending for both West Ham goals was atrocious, but in fairness to West Ham, the ref made some poor decisions that affected them negatively, so it all balanced out in the end.

Moyes ranks Newcastle as one of Europe’s best teams

David Moyes was understandably frustrated by the decisions that went against them, and even through black and white contact lenses it’s easy to see why he would be. Bruno Guimaraes and Miguel Almiron could both find themselves lucky not to have been sent off.

However, Moyes didn’t use the referee as an excuse and instead heaped praise on Newcastle telling Sky Sports: “Thrilled with a point. We played against a real good team today, who for me are probably as good as most of the teams in Europe this moment.

“I know there are two or three in our league which are very good but Newcastle are right up there with the way they’re playing at the moment.”

Newcastle had he lion’s share of possession against West Ham

Newcastle absolutely dominated possession of the ball, a stark contrast to midweek against PSG where they hardly touched it but still managed to bag four goals.

Some of the football Newcastle played, particularly in the second half was stunning and if not for the post, Isak could and indeed should have had a hat-trick after latching on to a superb Dan Burn through ball and rounding the ‘keeper.

The Magpies now go into another international break that’s come at the right time for them. The two week absence of the Premier League should give those injured players more time to recover and those who have been playing in three-game weeks plenty of time to rest.
