Daniel Farke has really hyped up Newcastle as the Magpies prepare to take on Norwich City at Carrow Road.
The German is set to take charge of his second Premier League game, having lost 4-1 on his debut away to Liverpool.
The Canaries played some lovely football at Anfield and caused a fair few problems for the European champions, but their defensive naivety ultimately cost them. It also didn’t help that former Toon defender Grant Hanley scored an own goal in the 7th minute.
Norwich couldn’t have had a tougher start to the season, and despite Farke’s praise for Newcastle, his team have a great chance at getting three points on the board.
They’ll have a raucous Carrow Road behind them, coming up against a fragile Newcastle side that fell apart dramatically against Arsenal.
But to ensure their potential win is even more grand, Farke has lavished Steve Bruce’s team with praise.
“We are the underdog in most games because of the possibilities of the opponents,” Farke said in his pre-match press conference.
“Newcastle are a big club. They have top class players and have strengthened in the summer. We have to be at our best level.”
With the uncertainty surrounding Newcastle right now, it’s not fair to label Norwich as the underdogs. Obviously, Farke doesn’t want to put pressure on his players, but even he must know this is a great chance to win.
Norwich have a clear identity. They’re going to play possession football, move the ball about nicely and create chances. If they can do it against Liverpool, then doing it against Newcastle surely won’t be hard.
The pressure is on Newcastle to cause the Canaries’ wobbly defence problems.
