Lifelong Newcastle United fan Dan Burn didn’t hold back in his interview with Sky Sports after his beloved Magpies put Manchester United to the sword at St James’ Park.
Newcastle outclassed Man United in every position this afternoon and should maybe have come away with a bigger win than the 2-0 they got.
Dan Burn spoke to Sky Sports at full time and he reiterated what it means for Newcastle to beat Manchester United, especially in the wake of the Carabao Cup final defeat: “It’s really special. For a long time, we’ve always disliked Manchester United. We’ve owed them one this season, so it was good to get the win today.

“As a Newcastle fan we were desperate to get the win. Over the seasons this [fixture] has always been one where we want to beat Manchester United. It was a great performance from the lads, I’m glad to get the win and the clean sheet.”
Since his £13million move from Brighton ‘Big Dan Burn’ has become almost a permanent fixture in Newcastle’s lineup. Brought in as a centre-back he’s spent the majority of this season at left-back after filling in for Matt Targett who’s spent a lot of time on the Newcastle treatment table. Now Targett is back to fitness, Eddie Howe simply can’t drop Burn as he’s done no wrong.
That top four place is Newcastle’s to lose
With him being a Geordie, he knows exactly what this season means to the fans and he wears his heart on his sleeve. He’s been fantastic in the media too which has all helped endear himself to the Toon Army.
Coming out and openly stating “we’ve always disliked Manchester United” will only have strengthened that bond between him and the fans.
Newcastle are now back up into third place in the Premier League on goal difference ahead of Manchester United as the race for the top four heats up. Newcastle have 11 games to go to make one of those spots their own and they are in the best possible place to do it.
