It was a rough start to the season for Christian Atsu.
The previous campaign ended early for the winger, as he underwent surgery on his knee.
He would return in time for the start of pre-season, but it is only now that Atsu is looking back to his best.

Atsu is back to having a positive impact
During the early weeks of the season, the Ghanaian would appear off the bench but fail to make any impact. His first start of the season came against Leicester, where he struggled alongside most of his teammates.
He would return to the starting lineup against Everton, and his performance actually surprised a lot of fans. While he wasted a lot of chances, the 26-year-old was at least able to influence the game and get in some positive positions.

His performance meant that he started once again against Wolves, and Atsu did not disappoint.
The £6.2 million signing (Daily Mail) was positive in possession and used the ball wisely, running at defenders and being a non-stop nuisance. Even when we went down to 10 men, Atsu stretched their defence and got us up the pitch.
It was a far cry from his performance off the bench against West Ham, where he looked unwilling to take responsibility and get Newcastle back in the game.
With the busy Christmas period on the way, Newcastle need as many options as possible, so Atsu’s return to form has come at a perfect time.
