It’s fair to say Newcastle United blew off the cobwebs after the international break.
On Saturday, Eddie Howe’s side romped to a 4-1 win over Chelsea, preparing for the trip to Paris Saint-Germain early next week in ideal fashion.
With Alexander Isak back from injury, Newcastle put the Blues to the sword in the second-half. Though the opening 45 minutes were relatively tight, the hosts ran riot after the interval as the visitors collapsed.
Indeed, it was a particularly good day for one Anthony Gordon.
The 22-year-old played in the cross for Jamaal Lascelles to put Newcastle back in front before adding a late fourth himself.
Anthony Gordon: Chris Waddle impressed by Newcastle star vs Chelsea
His performance was enough to leave former Newcastle winger Chris Waddle impressed.
Starring on the wing again after being forced to play as a centre-forward during the injury crisis, Waddle talked up Gordon’s performance.
He told BBC Sport during the game (at 16:55): “He has looked sharp, Gordon.
“He is not a natural centre-forward. You can see that. But he has pace and can beat a man.”

Anthony Gordon: Newcastle need star available for PSG clash
At times during the game, Gordon looked to be carrying a knock.
Clearly, that didn’t stop him from tearing Chelsea apart but it remains to be seen if there are any lasting problems.
Up against it in the Champions League and surely needing to win in the French capital, Newcastle need Gordon.
Up to five Premier League goals and having also recorded three assists, he’s absolutely crucial to Howe’s set-up.
With Harvey Barnes injured too, the options on the left aren’t all that convincing. Hopefully, he can put his body through playing two games in just a matter of days.
Without him, Newcastle’s chances of progression look a lot more bleak.
