Bruno Guimaraes is Newcastle United’s big injury concern coming out of the 2-0 defeat to West Ham United.

It was an extremely disappointing evening inside St James’ Park, as Newcastle United’s run of consecutive victories came to an end in emphatic fashion.

Newcastle were very disappointing against West Ham, slumping to a second home defeat in the Premier League in three games.

It was a really poor performance from Eddie Howe’s side, while there are also fresh injury problems following the loss.

Bruno Guimaraes and Joe Willock came off due to injury, with Howe hoping that neither issue is serious. The former had a glute problem, while the latter suffered a leg injury.

Bruno Guimaraes issues injury update

Now Bruno Guimaraes has taken to his official Instagram account to comment on his injury, telling fans he is hopeful that it is nothing too serious.

The Newcastle United captain wrote: “A night to forget! I hope the injury isn’t too serious. Thank you for the support, @nufc fans.”

When Bruno was last injured for Newcastle

The 27-year-old did not have a very good night against West Ham, as his close friend Lucas Paqueta got the better of him.

But it will be a real blow if Bruno is going to miss a spell of action through injury.

That is not something that Eddie Howe has had to deal with since the 2022/23 season, which was Bruno’s first full campaign at St James’ Park.

At the start of that season, he had a hamstring problem, then he suffered an ankle injury that forced him to miss three games.

The last game Bruno missed through injury was February 18th 2023, with Newcastle losing 2-0 to Liverpool on that day.

Who could potentially replace Bruno

If Bruno is injured, Newcastle United have a few options to replace him.

The obvious choice would be Sandro Tonali, who proved earlier this season that he can be a success in that deeper midfield role. Tonali had his best Newcastle game ever in that position, thriving in the Carabao Cup win over Chelsea.

Tonali would be the obvious choice to replace Bruno, but Howe could also deploy Joelinton there. Newcastle’s Swiss Army knife has played there before, even if it is not his best position.

The third option is to play Lewis Miley as the ‘number six’. He is yet to start for Newcastle United this season, and was not even on the bench for the defeat to West Ham.
