Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes toasted a brilliant year for the club with an excellent goal against Burnley on Tuesday night.

Guimaraes has led Newcastle United to heights they haven’t previously scaled in the modern era, captaining the side in their Carabao Cup trophy win back in March.

The Brazilian continues to be a leader under Eddie Howe and scored as Newcastle United beat Burnley 3-1 in the Premier League on Tuesday.

A lovely late lob took his tally up to six Premier League goals this season. He has never scored more than seven while playing for the Magpies.

The skipper’s late goal settled a few nerves at Turf Moor and Guimaraes was keen to reflect on a positive year for the club.

Bruno Guimaraes says he is grateful for playing for Newcastle United

Newcastle were not brilliant against Burnley but they did what they needed to do as they claimed only a second away win in the league this season.

Guimaraes was crucial to that. He helped keep the ball alive for Yoane Wissa’s goal, only minutes after Joelinton had fired the Magpies into the lead.

The Brazil international also provided the third goal on the day with a fine strike, one lobbed over former Newcastle stopper Martin Dubravka in the Burnley net after a defensive mix up.

What do you think is more important – the performance or the result?

We won't win many more away games if we're that open again…

Taking to Instagram after the game, Guimaraes said: “A great way to end 2025 with a big victory and another goal! What a wonderful year.

“Grateful for everything that’s been happening in my life. The key is to keep going no matter what. See you next year, Geordies, and enjoy your New Year. Thank God. 39 always in command!”

Newcastle United would be in a relegation battle without Bruno Guimaraes this season

Guimaraes is arguably Newcastle’s most important player, reflected in the fact they haven’t won a Premier League game in which he hasn’t started since he joined the club in January 2022.

Indeed, two of the midfielder’s goals this season have directly resulted in points, too.

He bagged the game-deciding goals against Nottingham Forest and Fulham earlier this season, meaning Newcastle would be at least six points worse off without his goals.

While obviously not an exact science, not having those six points would see Newcastle on 20 points in the Premier League table, sat level with Leeds United in 16th
