Bruno Guimaraes’ trophy dream is still alive as Newcastle United advanced to the quarter finals of the FA Cup.

It was a tough night at Ewood Park for Eddie Howe’s side, but they managed to get the job done – just. The game went all the way to penalties, where Martin Dubravka was the hero for Newcastle United.

He saved two spot-kicks to ensure Newcastle United will be in the hat for the next round of the FA Cup, on a night where they massively underperformed again.

After the Arsenal display, fans were expecting a response. However, they did not get one. Newcastle’s performance was worrying once again, but the main thing is they got through.

The Magpies are in the quarter finals of the FA Cup, and are now one game away from another trip to Wembley.

That will delight every player at St James’ Park, including Bruno Guimaraes. He scored his penalty in the shootout, and was his usual passionate self as he and his teammates celebrated victory in front of the travelling Toon Army.

After the game, Bruno took to his official Instagram account to deliver his honest verdict on the penalty shootout win in the FA Cup.

He wrote: “A very difficult game where we had to do our best to move forward! Happy for our team and very proud of today’s work. We follow our goals.”

It really was difficult at Ewood Park. To begin with, Newcastle struggled to create many chances. Meanwhile, Blackburn were creating opening after opening, only to be denied by Dubravka.

By the time Howe’s side did start to create some opportunities, they could not take them. Newcastle could have had it won before penalties, but were not clinical in the final third.

Bruno was guilty of that, missing a glorious chance to make it 2-1 in extra time.

But they got the job done in the shootout, and march on towards the quarter finals of the FA Cup. Fans will be praying for a home draw, which is something we have not had in the competition so far this season.

Whoever Newcastle play in the next round, they will have to be much better than they were against Blackburn. It was not a good performance, but at least they made it through by the skin of their teeth.
