Bruno Guimaraes makes 'promise' to Newcastle fans after Man City defeat

Bruno Guimaraes has promised that Newcastle will evolve next season following the Magpies’ 5-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Eddie Howe’s side were simply outplayed by City on Sunday, with Pep Guardiola’s team taking command of the Premier League title race.

Newcastle had some chances in the first half, but were simply outclassed by a team that appears to be on the brink of back-to-back titles.

It was a disappointing performance from the Magpies, but perspective is needed. We were against one of the best teams in the world who were looking for a reaction to their Champions League humiliation.

The scoreline is embarrassing, but the result isn’t. Newcastle’s work is done this season, with Premier League survival almost secured. That didn’t look at all likely at the start of the year.

There’s plenty to be positive about right now, and Bruno believes better days are on the horizon.

Bruno Guimaraes believes Newcastle will ‘evolve’ next season

After the defeat to Manchester City, Bruno apologised to fans on Twitter.

He wrote: “Fans, you don’t deserve what happened today. Your love for our team is unbelievable. I promise you that in the next season we’ll evolve as a team and we need you, as always, for the next two challenges.”

As Bruno alludes to, this is going to be a very exciting summer at Newcastle. It’ll be evolution not revolution, but there will still be plenty of changes.

The new owners want the club competing higher up the division, which means big money will once again be invested in the transfer window.

While our form in 2022 has been excellent, we are still a million miles away from challenging Manchester City. And so we should be. They’re a footballing juggernaut who look like they’re playing a completely different sport at times.

We’ve made huge strides in recent months, but there is still a lot of work to do. Just getting into the top half will be a challenge, even though we still have a chance of finishing in the top 10 this season.

Positive results against Arsenal and Burnley and other games going our way could see us finish in the top half, but no matter what happens it’s been a hugely important season.

The club is going in the right direction – up.

Bruno promises that Newcastle will evolve next season, and if his word is as good as his footballing ability then why shouldn’t we believe him?
