Bruno Guimaraes has sent a clear message to his teammates following Newcastle United’s 4-0 win over Union Saint-Gilloise.
The Magpies have got three points on the board in the 2025/26 Champions League, with Bruno Guimaraes picking up his first European win as Toon captain.
Newcastle hammered Union Saint-Gilloise over in Brussels, recording their first away win in the Champions League since February 2003.
It is a huge win for Eddie Howe, who has been waiting for his side to burst into life. Despite some decent performances, it has been a frustrating start to the season for Newcastle United.
Howe will hope this victory kickstarts his side’s campaign, and that is the message that Bruno Guimaraes has sent out on social media after the final whistle.

Bruno Guimaraes says Newcastle United have set their ‘standard’ now
Following Newcastle’s comfortable win over USG in the Champions League, Bruno has taken to his official Instagram account to send a message to supporters and his teammates.
Bruno wrote: “Very important win away from home. We have to maintain this standard from now on. Happy for the whole group. Howay the lads! Thanks for your support, Geordies.”
The key message is that this needs to be Newcastle’s standard now. They were poor against Arsenal on Sunday, despite the heartbreaking nature of their defeat. In other games, they have been limp offensively.
But it was different on Wednesday night. Newcastle were relentless. Nick Woltemade was excellent again, while Anthony Elanga and Anthony Gordon were unstoppable.
Bruno wants this to be a season-defining win for the Magpies, and they must prove that to be the case when they face Nottingham Forest at St James’ Park on Sunday.

What Bruno Guimaraes did after Newcastle United’s win over USG
After the final whistle, the Newcastle United squad took time to applaud the travelling Toon Army, as they always do. They showed their appreciation to the supporters that made the trip to Belgium, with plenty more ticketless Geordies watching the game in Brussels city centre.
Inside Lotto Park, supporters chanted the names of their Newcastle heroes, as they celebrated a famous European night.
One player who received the adulation of the Toon Army was Malick Thiaw, who continued his impressive run of form.
As fans chanted his name, Bruno Guimaraes pushed the German defender in front of the supporters to soak up the love that was coming his way.
