Newcastle United held on for dear life with a 0-0 draw in their first Champions League game in 20 years against AC Milan at the San Siro tonight.

It was a tough watch for Newcastle fans who watched on as Milan peppered Newcastle’s goal but found an in-form Nick Pope and a courageous, determined Newcastle defence in their way.

There wasn’t a great deal for Newcastle fans or players to get excited about, but Bruno Guimaraes made a superb tackle and celebrated it like a goal.

Bruno Guimaraes looked back to his best tonight

That was the image Bruno used for his post-match post on X which said: “This is what means for me!! We keep going behind our dreams! Never is easy and 1 point is very important for us! Howay the lads”

Clearly Bruno knows that a point at the San Siro was an excellent result, regardless of the performance and Mehrdad Ghodoussi agrees replying to the tweet with a heart emoji.

Bruno Guimaraes looked back to his old self barring one terrible misplaced pass that could have been costly.

Newcastle didn’t let the occasion get to them tonight

Guimaraes spoke of his dream of taking Newcastle into the Champions League when he arrived at Newcastle who were destined for relegation. Now that we’re there it’s no shock at all that he has risen to the occasion.

While it wasn’t a vintage performance from Eddie Howe‘s men it wasn’t exactly awful either. Of course there were errors, but there was also a lot of nice, controlled possession play, it was just lacking creativity in the final third.

Not to sound too much like Eddie Howe, but there are plenty of positives to take away from tonight’s game. The lads held their own and didn’t let the occasion get to them. Home ties are going to be massive for us in this competition.
