Newcastle United are back up and running.

While there were will no doubt be tougher tests to come for Newcastle, Eddie Howe’s side at least got back to winning ways on Saturday.

Indeed, the hosts thrashed Leicester 4-0 in the Premier League at St James’ Park, scoring plenty of goals while keeping a much-needed clean sheet.

The Newcastle United manager questioned the attitude of his players following last weekend’s defeat at Brentford and appeared to get something of a reaction.

Clearly, it’s difficult to know how the squad would have responded to such a public message from Howe if they had been up against a top team but they can only beat what’s in front of them.

Jacob Murphy opened the scoring before quick-fire goals from Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak put Newcastle into cruise control just after-half time. Murphy, who looked to be venting some frustration when celebrating his opener, would add another before the hour mark.

Plenty of Newcastle players impressed throughout proceedings, while Lewis Hall delighted supporters on social media.

It’s a huge week for Newcastle.

While Brentford smashed them in west London earlier this month, the fact they visit off the back of some dreadful away form in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals surely makes Newcastle slight favourites.

The Bees haven’t won away from home in the Premier League all season. Newcastle have to exploit that in the cup before a winnable-looking trip to Ipswich the following Saturday.

Consistency has been an issue all season but hopefully such a routine win blows off the cobwebs somewhat…
