Newcastle United have lost 1-0 to Everton tonight in the Premier League.
Eddie Howe’s side have missed a fantastic chance to pull further away from the relegation zone.

It was very much a game of two halves tonight.
The first was frenetic and full of intensity from both sides. Newcastle probably shaded it, but couldn’t find a way through.
The second was the total opposite, and there were several fouls from both teams making the game bitty.
Bizarrely, there was a lengthy stoppage shortly after the restart when an Everton fan tied themselves to Asmir Begovic’s goalpost.
The quality of the game really was low after that particular incident.
Toffees midfielder Allan was sent off for a jumping lunge on Allan Saint-Maximin as he led a breakaway.

Initially Craig Pawson gave a yellow card, but he was advised to look at the incident again on the pitchside monitor.
There was perhaps a sense that Everton were there for the taking after the Brazilian’s dismissal.
That’s why it is really disappointing that Newcastle have ended up losing.
Alex Iwobi was the man to get the only goal in the 98th minute.
Bruno Guimaraes can hold his head high after personal showing in defeat to Everton
Tonight’s result is extremely tough to take.
After the red card, it was inconceivable that Newcastle should go on and lose.
But there is a miniscule positive to take tonight in that Bruno Guimaraes put in a really tidy display in midfield.

The star completed 62/64 (97%) of his passes and had the most touches in the game with 84 (via Sofascore).
He also won 7/9 of his duels.
He has surely done his chances of starting Newcastle’s next game against Tottenham Hotspur after the international break no harm at all.
