It looked like Ayoze Perez might have turned his season around at Old Trafford.

The Spanish forward has been miserable in black and white, but things looked different before the international break.

Perez was played up top alongside Yoshinori Muto, and the pair combined brilliantly for the Magpies.

While he might not have scored, Perez was at his industrious best and creating chances for his teammates.

After that performance, he and Muto were rewarded with another start against Brighton. However, this game couldn’t have gone worse.

Perez back to his woeful worst

While neither played great, Perez was arguably the worst performer on the pitch.

The 25-year-old missed an early chance, and from there it all started to go wrong. Everything he touched crumbled into nothing. There were so many times that Newcastle could have created something, but for Perez to dwell on the ball or pick the wrong pass.

What was even more shocking was that he actually played the full game, whereas Muto was subbed off for Joselu late in the game.

The former Tenerife forward is a favourite of Rafa Benitez’s, but Perez really needs some time out of the team.

He started last season horrifically as well, before going on to be the club’s top scorer with 10 goals.

Whether or not that would happen this season remains to be seen, but fans are at the end of their tether with Ayoze. It looked like he had turned a corner, much like the team had, against Manchester United.

Sadly though, it was just another false dawn.
