Alan Shearer’s immediate four-word reaction to Newcastle win over Brentford with Sandro Tonali verdict

Just like every other Newcastle United fan, Alan Shearer liked what he saw against Brentford.

Newcastle United made it back-to-back wins by beating Brentford 3-1 in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.

The Magpies have now booked their spot in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup, with their opponents to be revealed on Thursday evening after Tottenham face Manchester United.

Sandro Tonali was the star of the show for Newcastle with the Italian midfielder continuing his great run of form by scoring twice from midfield. Alongside his two goals, Tonali also took 74 touches – the most of any player on the pitch and ended with a passing accuracy of 93 percent.

Lewis Hall was also magnificent against Brentford, while Fabian Schar continued his impressive goal record by scoring Newcastle’s third at St James’ Park.

Alan Shearer reacts to Newcastle beating Brentford

Newcastle legend Alan Shearer slammed Newcastle when they last faced Brentford in the Premier League, describing the defending as “laughable”.

Shearer challenged Newcastle to be consistent and not only show up in the big games. That criticism was heard loud and clear by the squad, who have now won back-to-back games against Leicester and Brentford.

After witnessing the comfortable victory on Wednesday, Alan Shearer took to social media to praise the performance with a four-word message.

In particular, Shearer singled out Tonali for praise, crediting him for his “very good technique”.

Newcastle have continued their Carabao Cup journey and taken one step closer to winning silverware under Eddie Howe.

Now in the top four, Newcastle can look forward to a two-leg tie with the cup draw set to take place after Thursday’s clash between Tottenham and Manchester United.

Alongside Newcastle, Liverpool and Arsenal have also booked their spot in the semi-finals after beating Southampton and Crystal Palace respectively.

The semi-final matches will take place across the week commencing 6 January and the week commencing 3 February. Should Newcastle make it to the final, it will take place at Wembley Stadium on 16 March.
