Alan Shearer has shared what he thought about Newcastle’s 4-1 defeat to Arsenal on Saturday night.

Newcastle were very poor both in and out of possession as they struggled to even get out of their half in the opening 45 minutes with just one shot on goal.

Shearer posted on X after the game to share how embarrassed he was with Newcastle’s overall performance as they stay eighty in the Premier League.

Arsenal get their revenge against Newcastle

Newcastle started the game on the backfoot and they finished the game on the backfoot in what was their 11th league defeat of the season, six more than in the entirety of the previous campaign.

Eddie Howe made some big changes to his starting 11 with Alexander Isak, Tino Livramento and Loris Karius all coming in, but it was to no avail as the Magpies fell to yet another defeat.

Arsenal have now claimed revenge on their previous meeting when Anthony Gordon netted a second-half winner which was doused in controversy after three VAR checks at St James’ Park

Now, Arsenal continue their push for the Premier League title while Newcastle are forced to look back and analyse what Shearer described as a ‘shambolic’ performance.

On social media, Shearer posted: “Arsenal brilliant. Newcastle shambolic.”

Newcastle’s European dream is slipping away

There had been some hope that Newcastle could potentially make a very late push for the Champions League places, but their latest results have put that to an end and it looks like it may be FA Cup or bust.

The Magpies conceded four to Luton, three to Nottingham Forest and two to Bournemouth coming into this game, so there wasn’t much hope from the supporters but it was still a miserable performance.

Looking ahead, their fixture list is certainly kinder than what it could have been, but Newcastle will have to seriously improve their defensive record if they are to have any hope of playing in Europe next season with the Conference League their most realistic target.
