Callum Wilson could well have played his final game for Newcastle United.
Wilson has been an excellent player for Newcastle United over the years, scoring 49 goals while registering 11 assists in 130 appearances since joining from Bournemouth.
Newcastle paid £20million to sign Wilson, and it’d be fair to say he more than repaid that. During the Steve Bruce years, the club could well have been relegated had it not been for his goals.
Still, this could now be the end for him on Tyneside. The 33-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and appeared to drop a hint in regard to his future. After the Everton game on Sunday, Wilson looked emotional as he said goodbye to Newcastle fans.
Despite being on course to leave Newcastle, the England international is still full of desire and has now confirmed a big target of his.

Callum Wilson makes statement on future after Newcastle United contract decision
Speaking on the High Performance Podcast (59 mins and 32 seconds in), Wilson revealed he wanted to try and break into the England squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
The forward hasn’t played for the Three Lions since 2023 but was in their squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. His international record stands at two goals in nine appearances.

Asked if he still had ambitions left in football, Wilson said: “Yeah, massive.
“For me in my mind, there’s no reason why I can’t play in the World Cup again next year. That’s the kind of mindset that I’ll have.”
On Monday, The Athletic claimed that while Newcastle haven’t offered him a new contract, the club have entered talks about potentially extending his stay with an incentivised new deal.
Leeds want to sign Callum Wilson this summer
The fact Wilson wants to at least target going to the World Cup next summer would perhaps suggest he’s after first-team football.
Surely only by doing that does he get himself into a position to convince Thomas Tuchel he’s worthy of selection. He started only three times for Newcastle during the 2024/25 season, so even if he did stay, first-team chances could still be limited.
With that in mind, it’s hard to see how staying at Newcastle fits in with those plans. Alexander Isak is simply too good to drop.
Leeds are interested in signing Wilson this summer, although it remains to be seen what offers emerge.
