Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen appears to be Newcastle’s number one target, but fans are less than enthusiastic about the Danish forward.
Jorgensen has been prolific in Rotterdam over the past two seasons, ending the last campaign as the league’s top scorer, with Feyenoord winning the Eredivisie.
The 27-year-old is believed to be the man that Rafa Benitez wants to solve his side’s goal-scoring woes, but Jorgensen would not be the first forward to arrive from the Netherlands.
Newcastle has been home to both Siem and Luuk de Jong, brothers who had zero success on Tyneside. Luuk was unable to find the net in a loan spell, while older brother Siem spent most of his days injured, wondering why the city of Newcastle was trying to kill him.
These players, plus various other flops from the Eredivisie, including Afonso Alves and Mateja Kezman, have forced some Newcastle fans to write off Jorgensen completely before he has even arrived at St James’ Park.
However, we cannot afford for that to be the case. Newcastle are desperate for a striker, with Dwight Gayle’s confidence shot to bits and Joselu not being a natural goal-scorer, and missed chances are costing us valuable points in our battle against relegation.
Jorgensen will have confidence flowing through his boots and has shown he has the strikers touch, and fans must get behind the Denmark international if he does make the move to the North East.
In our perilous position, we must give every player every chance to succeed. If Jorgensen does join Newcastle, then we must unite and give him the best platform to score the goals that will keep us in the Premier League.
