Newcastle forward Yoshinori Muto came in for a great deal of praise after sending his first post-match Tweet.

The Japan international came off the bench against Cardiff City in the lunchtime kick off on Saturday.

The 26-year-old was introduced to the game by Rafa Benitez after 65 minutes, replacing Ayoze Perez.

Amid some average individual performances on the day, Muto definitely made an impression in the 25 minutes he was afforded.

He showed a great willingness to run into the channels, and won the last-minute penalty which Kenedy ultimately missed.

There have already been calls for the £9.5 million signing from Mainz to start against Chelsea.

The star has a decent scoring record so far in his career having notched 43 in 118 league appearances.

At Mainz he recorded a one-in-three goals/game ratio in the Bundesliga, and a one-in-two ratio before that in his homeland.

There is certainly a case for him to start ahead of Joselu against Chelsea on Sunday at St. James’ Park.

Muto addresses the fans

Muto has been fairly quiet on social media since his summer move.

On Monday though, he took to Twitter to extend his thanks. He said: “Thank you very much for [the] great support. I will do my very best for three points next game!!”

That prompted a number of Magpies supporters to reach back out to Muto.

Most felt as though he made a positive impact against the Bluebirds:
