As the January transfer window rumbles on, Newcastle have still not completed the signing of Miguel Almiron.
He was the talk of the town in December, with rumours of a deal being agreed. However, as always with a Newcastle United target, nothing is simple. And, as always, the issue seems to be money.
According to the Daily Mail, the Magpies have offered £17million for the midfielder. However, Atlanta United have asked them to up their offer to £25million, which would make him the most expensive player in the club’s history.
Rafa Benitez is desperate for reinforcements, as Newcastle enter the second half of the season embroiled in a relegation battle.
Newcastle are missing someone with the craft that Almiron possesses, which is why the 24-year-old costs so much.
Almiron update enrages Newcastle fans once again
Seriously I’d like to know how #NUFC negotiate transfer deals offering £17M for Almiron yet still being £8M short of the quite clear asking price of £23M just Lee Charnely in a nut shell. 🙄

Not giving Atlanta 25m for almiron but remembering that deadline day we bid 21m for berahino🤣🤣🤣🤣

Is Almiron a struggling chain of department stores? If not, there’s no chance of Ashley paying that.

Hold on! We bid 17million for a player?? Doubt it

Day 10 of the window and in a shock twist ( but not a shock to anyone other then the chronicle) reports suggest we’re still 8m short for Almiron, Strange when we started talks in November but a great deal to waste 10 days of a window #NUFC really excelling themselves this year

This will drag out all window like that Danish lad last year … pointless reporting on it every day, Just give up Like us fans

This is typical of @NUFC every transfer window during Ashley’s era. Under valuing the stating they couldn’t get the players they wanted. £8mill difference is a big gap

The last tweet sums things up perfectly. Time and time again, Newcastle have refused to meet a player’s asking price under Mike Ashley. It happened last January with Nicolai Jorgensen, and fortunately we got away with that one.
But Almiron just joins the long list of players who Newcastle have ‘tried to sign’, before being priced out of a deal. While other teams put their money where their mouth is and back their manager, Benitez continues to work on peanuts as he aims to defy the odds.
Some supporters are even amazed that we’ve apparently offered £17million, but it means nothing if that fee isn’t enough to secure his signature.
It’s a case of deja vu for fans during the transfer window.
