The renaissance of Christian Atsu was pretty amazing.
The winger was shocking at the start of the season, struggling to re-find his pace after an injury. But things changed for the Ghanaian after the 1-1 draw with Everton.
Atsu finally looked a threat once again, using his pace and dribbling ability to get at defenders. This was the beginning of a strong run in the Newcastle side.
However, the 27-year-old has struggled in recent games, proving to be much less effective. And this loss of form couldn’t come at a worse time for Atsu.
Almiron in, Atsu out?
Tuesday night saw reports that Newcastle had made a transfer breakthrough. According to the Chronicle, Newcastle have agreed a club record deal to bring Miguel Almiron to the club.
The Paraguayan has been a target for the Magpies all month, and Rafa Benitez appears to have finally got his man.
Almiron is an exciting talent who helped Atlanta United win the MLS Cup last season. Pace, creativity and an eye for goal, he’ll give Newcastle exactly what they’ve been missing.
And there is a place in the starting XI with his name on it as Atsu begins to struggle. If Benitez continues with the same system, it seems that Atsu’s position is the most logical for Almiron to take.
