Momentum will be key for Newcastle between now and May, but right now we have none.

That’s why the FA Cup replay against Blackburn Rovers is a crucial game. While the draw at St James’ Park initially looked like a disaster, it could end up being advantageous.

On Saturday, we have the biggest game of the season against Cardiff. What happens at Ewood Park could impact proceedings in the Premier League.

A chance to gain momentum

Newcastle haven’t won a game since they beat Huddersfield 1-0 on December 15th.

Since then, the life has been sucked out of the club, with no takeover movement and no January signings. On top of that, we slipped into the relegation zone this weekend.

The Magpies have no confidence right now, which was particularly evident against Blackburn in the FA Cup.

With the replay on the horizon, Newcastle must get that winning feeling back. While it is only against a Championship side, a win is a win. Advancing to the Fourth Round of the cup could severely boost our chances against Cardiff on Saturday.

The clash with Neil Warnock’s men is simply ‘must win’, so getting some momentum by beating Blackburn is crucial.

The FA Cup isn’t a priority for Rafa Benitez, but it can be used in an effective way on Tuesday night.
