Kenedy made his first appearance in a Newcastle shirt on Wednesday night, putting in a man of the match performance.

While Joselu’s failures in front of goal cost the Magpies against Burnley, the other big talking point was the debut of Kenedy.

The Brazilian started on the left wing for Newcastle, showing exactly why Rafa Benitez had wanted to sign the youngster for so long.

Newcastle have had a problem with inconsistent wingers all season: Matt Ritchie’s delivery and work rate has been at the required level but does not seem to have the pace needed at Premier League level, Jacob Murphy appears to lack the physical attributes but can cause problems for defenders with his dribbling ability, while Christian Atsu is the ultimate mixed bag, looking unstoppable one week to wretched the next, with the latter sadly appearing against Burnley.

However, in his 70 minutes against Sean Dyche’s side, Kenedy appeared to be the perfect blend of all three wide midfielders. His delivery was inch perfect, creating multiple chances as well as recording the assist for Jamaal Lascelles’ goal.

The 21-year-old was confident and creative, linking up with the likes of Mo Diame brilliantly, as everything good about Newcastle went through Kenedy.

His performance was almost capped off with a goal, striking the post in the first half, but despite the miss, fans were raving about Kenedy afterwards.

Of course it was just one game, but it was a real delight to watch Kenedy’s performance and a reason to be optimistic going into the crucial final stages of the season.

With Islam Slimani arriving as well, a true goal-scorer, it could make Kenedy look even better, as we now have someone capable of sticking away the chances he creates.

A sensational debut from Kenedy, who will be praying he can pick up where he left off against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
