Ayoze Perez has received his fair share of flack from Newcastle fans at the start of the season.

Despite being the Magpies’ top scorer during the last campaign, Perez has been unable to carry on his good form.

The Spaniard scored 10 times in all competitions last season, but his current tally is a not-so-whopping zero.

While scoring goals isn’t everything, the forward’s performances have left a lot to be desired as well. Often weak in possession and wasteful on the ball, Perez has been frustrating to say the least.

It’s been peak Ayoze Perez. The lad clearly has talent, but so often gets it wrong and will feel the wrath of supporters until he eventually gets on the score-sheet.

However, things seemed to pick up at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Improvement for Perez

The 25-year-old started once again for Rafa Benitez, playing up top with a new partner in Yoshinori Muto.

Something seemed to click for the 25-year-old in the North West, as Perez was a constant thorn in the Manchester United defence.

He created the first goal with a perfect pass for Kenedy, splitting the Red Devils’ defence.

The former Tenerife forward caused so many problems with his running, finding space in behind and getting in dangerous areas. This is something we haven’t seen from him all season.

While he was still wasteful at times, it was refreshing to see what Perez is capable of once again, proving that he still can be a useful attacker for Benitez.

It looked like Muto could take his place in the team, but now it’s apparent the pair can play together. Salomon Rondon and Joselu are the ones who should be worried.
