If Newcastle United got a penalty, who would you want to take it?

The Magpies have had some decent spot-kick takers in years gone by, particularly during the era of a legendary number nine…

However, some players have struggled from 12 yards out.

Kenedy blasted his one and only penalty over the bar, while Matt Ritchie is one of two Newcastle players to miss multiple penalties in the Premier League.

But which Newcastle player has scored the most penalties in Premier League history?

Alan Shearer, 36 penalties scored

Of course Alan Shearer has scored more Premier League penalties than any Newcastle player.

In fact, his final ever goal was a spot kick in a derby win over Sunderland.

But while he has scored the most Premier League penalties for Newcastle, he has also missed the most.

On three occasions he failed to find the net, leaving his record at 36 goals from 39 penalties in the Premier League.

Peter Beardsley, 14 penalties scored

He may have scored fewer, but Peter Beardsley boasts a 100% record from the spot in the Premier League for Newcastle.

In fact, he is the only other player to score more than 10 penalties for the Magpies since 1992.

Nolberto Solano, 6 penalties scored

When Shearer wasn’t available, Nobby Solano was on penalty duty.

Six times he stepped up, and six times he found the net.

Shola Ameobi, 5 penalties scored

It’s surprising to see that Shola Ameobi only scored five Premier League penalties.

The cult hero always looked so assured from 12 yards out, you’d think he would have been allowed to take more.

There were two things Shola was exceptional at: scoring penalties, and scoring against Sunderland.

Joey Barton, 4 penalties scored

Two of Joey Barton’s penalties actually came in one game.

The midfielder played an important role in the 4-4 comeback against Arsenal.

Twice he held his nerve to score from the spot against the Gunners, helping complete an unlikely comeback.

Callum Wilson, 4 penalties scored

Despite only joining Newcastle in the summer of 2020, Callum Wilson has already taken and scored four penalties for Newcastle in the Premier League.

The Magpies have received more penalties this season down to the involvement of VAR, and Wilson has taken every chance he has got.
